Bowns Campground

Name: Bowns Campground

Bowns Campground is situated along the south bank of Big Smokey Creek east of Featherville, Idaho. The campground is on level ground with pine tree and willows growing throughout the area. There are several trails for hiking, biking and riding in the mountains nearby. It is great for camping while riding the trails.

Campsites: There are 10 campsites, each having a picnic table and fire ring with attached grill. Sites 3 and 5 are double sites. If you are interested in camping on Big Smokey Creek, sites 5, 6 and 8 are right on the bank. I enjoyed my night of camping in site 8.

Host on Site: No.

Water: Yes. There is a hand pump equipped well. The water wasn't bad just a little iron in it.

Garbage Services: No, pack it out with you.

Electricity Available: No.

Restroom: There is a vault style outhouse which was clean and well stocked.

Handicap Accessible: The outhouse is handicap accessible.

Firewood: You will need to provide your own firewood while staying at Bowns Campground.

Pets: Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash.

Picnic Area: No.

Recreation: The nearby trails winding through the mountains surrounding Bowns Campground seem to be the main attraction. Fishing, hunting and camping are also good reasons to come here.

Fishing: Fishing is available in Big Smokey Creek, check the regulations here.

Boating: No.

Swimming: No.

Wildlife: I saw a doe and her young buck at Lightfoot Hot Spring which is a couple miles west along the road.

Nearby Services: There are no services nearby. The closest is Featherville which is 24 miles to the west. Or one could drive to Fairfield, Idaho which is 26 miles to the southeast.

RV Dumping Site: There is an RV dump station at Big Smokey Guard Station located a short drive to the east.

Bouns is my favorite campground. Been going there about 40 years.  I love it.   Have had a few skirmishes with black bears.  Am anxious to be back camping there this summer.  Been many changes in the area due to the flooding in the past few years.
