Casino Creek Campground

Name: Casino Creek Campground

Casino Creek Campground is situated along the south bank of the Salmon River ,NE of Stanley, Idaho, across the river from Hwy 75. The southern exposures are sagebrush, however forest covers the remaining areas. The river is fast near the campground with a steep, brushy bank, so access at the campground is limited. The Casino Creek Trailhead is at the far end of the campground and has 2 or 3 sites equipped for horsemen, including a loading dock for the stock. If you are planning on leaving your auto and hiking the trail, there is plenty of extra parking here.

Campsites: There are 19 tent / RV camping sites in Casino Creek Campground. However, sites 18 and 19 are unlike the others. You park your RV by the road then walk 50 yards to the site. I thought they were tent sites, but there are no tent pads. This campground was not busy.

Host on Site: No, the host from Mormon Bend Campground serves this campground as well.

Water: Potable water is available from a hand-crank equipped well. The water had a metallic smell to it so I did not taste it.

Garbage Services: There is garbage service at Casino Creek Campground.

Electricity Available: No.

Restroom: There is a vault style outhouse available. It was clean and well supplied when we visited.

Handicap Accessible: Yes, both the outhouses and the picnic tables are handicap accessible.

Firewood: There is a sign indicating firewood is available for $6.00, but it comes from the host at Mormon Bend Campground.

Pets: Pets are allowed but only on a leash.

Picnic Area: No.

Recreation: We saw people rafting the Salmon River, and there were 2 groups camped at the trailhead trail riding on their horses. Fly fishing the Salmon River is also very popular. Camping, ATVing, hiking and photography are also available.

Fishing: Fly fishing the Salmon River is popular and there are other creeks such as Casino Creek available, check the regulations.

Boating: There are no boating facilities at the campground. However, there was one group camped and they were rafting the river. The nearest put in I saw was at Sunbeam.

Swimming: No, the river is swift and strong at Casino Creek Campground.

Wildlife: Deer, elk, bear and wolves all live in this area.

Additional Camping Opportunities: Check out our reviews of these nearby campgrounds; Salmon River Campground, Riverside Campground, Mormon Bend Campground, Blind Creek Campground, Upper O'Brien Campground and Lower O'Brien Campground. I did not see any free primitive camp sites in this area.
