Lower Penstemon Campground, situated along Rock Creek south of Twin Falls, is at 6600 feet elevation. This area has some open hills on the southern exposures. Other areas are covered with evergreen trees and undergrowth. There is a large grassy flat in the center of the campground which has a baseball field complete with a backstop and benches for the players. I visited in late June and found it to be cool during the night but getting into the 70s during the day.
Campsites: Lower Penstemon Campground has 6 campsites each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with attach grill. The road is gravel and the driveways are dirt / gravel mix. Sites 2 through 4 are in a loop below the baseball field. 1 is double and is near the road. 5 is short and against a hill. 6 is by itself at the top of the campground.
Host on Site: No.
Water: There is a pressurized water system and the water was clean and cold.
Garbage Services: By calling the forest service office I found there is a dumpster in one of the parking lots near Diamondfield Jack Campground.

Recreation: Camping, birding, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hunting and wildlife viewing are activities in this area. There are many trails in the mountains from here. Plus there is a baseball field for a good game of softball.
Fishing: I heard talk of some very good trout fishing but you had to find more remote streams to find it.
Wildlife: Deer are common here and one could also see elk, fox, coyote and small woodland animals. Birds are abundant, I saw many small birds around the campground.
