Outlet Campground

Name: Outlet Campground

Outlet Campground on Redfish Lake is situated on the north shore near the outlet into Redfish Lake Creek. The Redfish Lake area is part of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and is nestled against the Sawtooth Mountains. The forest in this area is thin and offers limited shade or privacy, but the beauty of the lake and mountains more than makes up for this small shortcoming.

Campsites: There are 19 tent / Rv Camping sites in Outlet Campground. Each site includes a picnic table, fire pit with grate, cooking table, and most have a sand filled tent square.

Host on Site: The hosts for 2010 are Dell & Irene. They were friendly and helpful.

Water: Outlet Campground has a pressurized water system with good water, not great, but good.

Garbage Services: Garbage service is available in bear resistant containers.

Restroom: The toilets are clean and of the flushing type!

Handicap Accessible: Outlet Campground is handicap accessible.

Firewood: Firewood is available for $6.00 per bundle from the camp hosts or at Redfish Lake Lodge at the "General Store".

Pets: Pets are allowed on a leash but not at the beach.

Recreation: Activities in this area include boating, swimming, canoeing, kayaking (on the Salmon River), hiking, biking, backpacking, horseback riding, fishing, photography ( this area is the most photographed area in Idaho) and much more. There is shopping in the quaint shops in nearby Stanley, Idaho, or the drive to Sun Valley is only about one hour.

Fishing: Redfish Lake is stocked with trout several times a year, and the lake has a run of Kokanee Salmon. Check the fishing regulations.

Boating: The boating facilities are at Sandy Beach Boat Ramp for Redfish Lake.

Swimming: Outlet Campground has a very nice sandy beach with a picnic area next to it.

Wildlife: Deer abound here. We saw one wandering about when we were reviewing these campgrounds. Use caution with your food and garbage to avoid problems with the bear that also live here.

Additional Camping Opportunities: There are 7 other campgrounds in the Redfish Lake area.

Phone service: We did not have reception with our ATT cell phone, but there is a pay phone at the Central Services area and another at Redfish Lake Lodge.

Nearby Services: If you find you need some extra supplies, check out the store at the Central Services area or at the "General Store" at Redfish Lake Lodge. They have ice, pop, candy, gas, propane and even ice cream treats. If you don't find what you need there, Stanley, Idaho, is only about 7 miles away.

RV Dumping Site: The Central Services area has a public RV Dumping Station.

Location/Driving instructions: From Stanley, Idaho, drive south on Hwy 75 to turn right on Redfish Lake Road and follow it for about three miles to the campground. Outlet Campground will be on the right.
