Spillway Recreation Site

Name: Spillway Recreation Site

Spillway Recreation Site is located near the south end of Anderson Ranch Dam. It is a Boise National Forest camping site. The surroundings are a mixture of sagebrush and forest set in a steep valley. North slopes and draws are forested while the southern exposures are open sagebrush. Spillway Recreation Site is named as such because it is located by the spillway. If you want my two cents worth, I stopped for lunch here but would never camp here unless I was wanting to bank fish the deep water near the dam. I found it dry and unappealing.

Campsites: There are two sites with a picnic table and another primitive site.

Host on Site: No.

Water: None.

Garbage Services: No.

Electricity Available: No.

Restroom: There is one vault style outhouse.

Handicap Accessible: The outhouse is handicap accessible but that's all.

Firewood: You will need to provide your own firewood.

Pets: There were no restrictions posted.

Picnic Area: Since there is no fee, anyone could use a camping site for their picnic.

Recreation: Camping, fishing, boating, hiking, jet skiing, water skiing and photography are some of the recreational activities here.

Fishing: Fishing is available in Anderson Ranch Reservoir and the South Fork of the Boise River. There are trout, salmon, bass and perch. Check the regulations for seasons and limits.

Boating: No boating facilities here.

Swimming: This would not be a safe place to swim, but I am sure some people swim anyway.

Wildlife: Deer, bear and other small mammals inhabit the hills around here. Watch for snakes. I found a five foot bull snake so there could be rattlesnakes as well.

Additional Camping Opportunities: We have reviews for the following nearby campgrounds; Anderson Ranch Reservoir Area, Little Camas Reservoir, South Fork of the Boise River, Little Wilson Creek Campground, Evans Creek Campground, Castle Creek Campground (BNF), Pine Recreation Site, Deer Creek Recreation Site and Curlew Creek Boat Ramp Campground.

Phone service: No pay phone or cell service available.

Nearby Services: Mountain Home is the location for your nearest services such as gas, food, propane and pop. Be sure you have what you need before you come. If you are driving up the north side of Anderson Ranch Reservoir you will find services including food and beverages at Fall Creek Resort. I did see it listed for sale so I don't know what it's status is now.

RV Dumping Site: According to RV Dumps.com there is one in Mountain Home on E 12th St S, no charge. Take I-84 Bus to E 12th St, turn north. The dump is down a block on your left. Potable water is also available.
